Echolette – Hercules 520

Recently I got this 2x 15 cab when I bought a new amp. Searching the internet didn’t result in any information on this cab or speakers, so this post is pure informative!

I’ve already looked into the Echolette brand in a former post. You can read upon it here.

The circuit

The cabinet is a great looking, used 2×15″cab. It is heavy but not as heavy as other 2×15 cabs I own or used in the past. It looks like parts were replaced or renewed, but as I can’t find any pictures of other Hercules 520 cabs I can’t compare. The baffle is slightly damaged. On the back two white TS jacks are located called ‘In’ and ‘Out’. The artsy wheels on the bottom are damaged.

The impedance of the cab is 16 ohm with two 15″ speakers. You can spot on the front that two bass ports are available. Opening up the cab (removing the baffle and removing the speakers) you can see that the two speakers each have their own space that are not completely sealed off. Speakers are unknown 15″ speakers, rated 100W at 8 ohms. Both speakers are set in series to make the 16 ohm impedance. The jacks are wired in parallel (so there is no real ‘In’ or ‘Out’).

I rewired the amp to be 4 ohm (speakers in parallel) so my amp could take it.

The sound

I LOVE a good 15″ sound and having even two of them is amazing! This cab sounds great: Sensitivity / volume is adequate, the frequency response is fitting a 15″ sound with a lot of vintage vibes and finally that lovely used look. I’m sold!
