PSK – Octaver OTV-2

I recently got my hands on this pedal. It had some issues that were quickly resolved by soldering the input back. Is this a Boss clone?

PSK is an effect pedal brand produced by South Korean manufacturer Kyung Nam Co. during the 1980’s and 1990’s. These pedals were made under several names like Music-Son, PSK, RAK, Yorker USA and Amiko. PSK pedals were distributed in the Asian and European market but were rarely seen in the American market. These pedals were modelled after the known Boss pedals; this pedal should be a clone copy of the Boss OC-2. More info on the line of PSK pedals can be found here.

The circuit

The pedal is housed in a durable plastic enclosure that mimics the enclosure of a Boss pedal. No serial number is visible. The footswitch can also be opened to replace the battery. The pedal controls for the clean signal’s volume (‘D.Level‘), the volume of 1 octave down (‘1 down‘) and the volume of 2 octaves down (‘2 down’). Placed next to a Boss OC-2 you can spot the differences in enclosure.

Opening up the pedal shows a PCB that is mimiced to match the Boss OC-2 precisely. Both the front as the back is almost similar. For reference I traced the pedal. Conclusion: identical to a version 1 Boss OC-2 (later Boss OC-2’s used a dual 4013 IC).

The PSK lost the ACA adapter standard that is still in this Boss OC-2.

The sound

Placed next to each other I had a hard time finding a difference. I almost find the PSK smoother…… It is a great octave pedal with enough volume and sounds to make a guitar player and a bass player happy!
